Some would say that we live on a global plantation controlled by rich bankers and Illuminati styled organizations. That may be true, but that is not what we are discussing today. What we will discuss is the politics that affect the African-American Community.
Many have heard me say the phase “Plantation Politics,” and may not know what I am referring to, or how it really pertains to the daily life. Plantation Politics is referring to a train of thought, which permeates through the Diaspora of African-American thought. It is the reason why we cannot completely get together to work in one direction for one united goal.
Let me backup and break “Plantation Politics” down. The definition of Plantation- is a large farm or estate, usually in a tropical or subtropical country, where crops are grown for sale in distant markets. The definition of Politics - is a process by which groups of people make collective decisions. The term is generally applied to behavior within civil governments, but politics has been observed in other group interactions, including corporate, academic, and religious institutions. It consists of "social relations involving authority or power" and refers to the regulation of a political unit, and to the methods and tactics used to formulate and apply policy.
Plantation Politics is the methods and tactics applied by a group of people who were subject to brutal enslavement, with no compensation for the work that was done to make a country rich from the export of the main cash crop, and the application of social relations between “authority or power”and the “powerless”; the psychological damage, and the lack of professional assistance to cope with the mentality created by 411 years of oppression.
How we relate to one another, and how we bring about change is a direct consequence of how, as a people, we were programmed to act or react to stimuli put before us in forms of obstacle, and demoralization as a people. One of the lasting affects of slavery is the “breeder/stud” psychosis. Psychosis - is a loss of contact with reality, usually including false beliefs about what is taking place or who one is (delusions).
The black male as “stud” & the black female as “breeder” is one of the most pervasive problems we face. There was no premium put on the Black Family unit staying together on the plantations. The death rate amongst slaves was high. To replace their losses, plantation owners encouraged the slaves to have children. Childbearing started around the age of thirteen, and by twenty, the women slaves were expected to have four or five children. The children were often times sold off to other plantations, and the vicious cycle repeated itself, perpetually until it became melted into the physic of, the male not to value family, and the female to continue to be the breeder.
The psychosis goes even further when the black male picks up the traits of the oppressor by taking on the role of “the pimp.” The pimp “with all of his hoes,” “pimps up,hoes down,” with the woman becoming the source of income through sex. Alternatively, the female continuing to breed, bringing more babies into the world to be used as free labor in the prison industrial complex, due to pathology brought on from physical and mental devastation on the slave plantations. The “I don’t need a man syndrome,” while still bringing babies into the world without a strong family unit.
The lack of family structure brings about the almost anti-unity stance we find amongst our people. In one of my earlier posts I stated, “I don't believe in making women sluts and whores.” This is one of my pillars, so to speak. The woman is the most important vessel on the planet. She is where we are created again. If she is not mentally stable, is not physically strong, the children birthed from her womb are not able to carry on our race, and we will fade from existence due to lack of direction from “the mother’s hand.” The old saying “the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world” is oh so true; but what if we are not mentally awake to see the importance of breaking the spiraling cycle of fractured family units?
A strong family structure, helps us to build a strong political structure, which in turn helps to build a strong governmental structure that helps us determine in which way our community will develop and grow. Realizing we must break from what happened to us on the plantations of America means more than forgetting. It means we must first learn the history, be able to tell the history without fear, and take the steps to correct what we have done that may be a repeat of that history. For that is what his(our)story is for, so we will not make the same mistakes again!
The young black male must be told why it is irresponsible to try to show, through sex, that he is a man. It must be reinforced to him that education is the key to break the cycle of the “stud.” The young black female must be told why she must strive to educate herself, and break the cycle of “the breeder.” It must be taught to them, less in a religious framework, but more in a historical framework—with the facts concerning slavery—it’s impact on us today, and with the education component placed as the most important factor to African-Americans truly breaking the bonds of mental slavery, if not physical.
If we do not do this, we will always suffer from Plantation Politics.
